After the last revelation from the Great Deku Tree, silence had fallen over the meadow.

However, Link was the first to react  when he saw Verios trotting away and heading towards the deepest part of the forest. Why was she running away? He hurried after her and yelled, "Verios, wait!" but his friend was much faster than he was, when she got serious.
She did stop from time to time, though, turning back as if trying to guide him somewhere, so Link couldn't do anything else but follow her.

They soon reached the deepest area of the Kokiri Forest, a dangerous place were Kokiris didn't usually go into because they feared getting lost. Tellingly, that part of the forest was called the Lost Woods, but Link wasn't afraid. How could he be, now that the child knew he was a Hylian? Kokiris never grew up, but Hylians did and one day he would have become a man, thus he had to be brave. His love for adventure, the fact he never had a guardian fairy… everything made sense now, and the thought of having a whole world to explore really excited him.

It was late afternoon when Link, still on Verios' trail, got to a wooden bridge. From the other end of it, the spirit stopped and turned to look at the boy.

'Farewell, Link…' Her telepathic voice reached his mind, sounding sad. However, before he could tell anything, she just disappeared into thin air.

"Verios!" Link yelled in despair. He didn't want to part from her!
Tired after the long chase and confused about Verios' reason for leaving like that, he dropped on his knees and put his face into his hands, trying to stop the tears. Then, he heard light steps behind him.

"Link…" a gentle voice said, putting a hand on his shoulder to comfort him.

"Saria? How did you get here?" Link stood up slowly.

"I know the Lost Woods a bit, too…"

The boy realized she was as sad as he was, and he turned around to face Saria. "Of course…" he thought, feeling stupid.

"I'm sorry, Saria…" he started, but the other just put a finger on his lips and handed him her ocarina.

"What does this mean?" Link asked, confused.

"Please take it with you." Saria smiled, albeit sadly.

Link looked down at the Fairy Ocarina she had given him. Unsure of what to say, he simply nodded.

"You remember how to play it, right?"

"Of course…"

"Good! Thanks to that ocarina, you'll be able to contact me whenever you want, even when you'll be far away from the Kokiri Forest… far away from your home."

Link hadn't really had the time to think about it, therefore the fact that he was leaving his homeland, maybe forever, sunk in only after Saria's words. Still, inside his heart he felt an urge for wider skies… Unable to explicate what that inner drive of his actually was, he just asked, "How is that even possible?"

"Well, you and Verios didn't hear the full story," Saria explained. "Actually, she already knew about it…

"Anyway, after you two left, the Great Deku Tree told us that the chosen hero would be assisted by a sage too—the Forest Sage to be exact—and I am that sage, Link" She looked down.

"Cool! I knew you were special, Saria!"

"I guess… well, at least my sage's powers will let us communicate with each other. You'll just need to play the first song I taught you, and I will reply immediately."

"Thank you for the ocarina, I will play it whenever I need help!" Link waved at her and crossed the bridge.

"Goodbye, Link" Saria whispered. She hoped to see him again soon…

In the meanwhile, on the other side of the bridge the landscape changed abruptly from mazy woods to prairie, and Link found himself in an open field, its vastness filling his whole being. "Whoa!" he exclaimed, at lost for words.
Never had Link seen such a huge grassland, and he felt his head spinning. Even the sky seemed higher, its white clouds broidering the verdant fields with their faint shadows, in a play of lights shaped by the caprices of the wind. A stream of crystalline water on his right, a footpath on his left, the boy opted for the latter and initiated his journey.

Link walked for hours, each step taking him further away from the safety of the forest, and only stopped when he came across a group of large buildings surrounded by a tall fence. "Lon Lon Ranch" he read on the signboard. "Well, I have to start somewhere so it might as well be here."

While searching for clues on the legendary Master Sword that he was supposed to find, maybe he would meet Verios again… However, The Spirit of Truth wasn't in Hyrule at present.
The Great Deku Tree was telling the Kokiri about the creation myth when Verios' sisters had contacted her telepathically. They had ordered their younger sibling to guide the chosen hero outside of the Kokiri Forest, and then to come back to the Sacred Realm, where she was now. The two older spirits disapproved of Verios' fondness for Link because she was expected to protect the mortals of Hyrule as a whole, without focusing on any of them. Verios knew they were right, and promised to stay away from Link if they allowed her to return to Hyrule… She was saddened at the thought of not seeing him again, but she wanted to keep learning about Hyrule's people, at least.

Back in the mortal world, the Spirit of Truth assumed the form of a Hylian girl to hide her identity. Her long and straight hair were blond to remind her of Link, and they contrasted beautifully with her emerald eyes. Her white and green dress was simple yet pretty, and during her travels she liked walking barefooted across the grassy plains of the Hyrule Field. Overall, Verios looked like a normal girl, the only clue to her identity a little Triforce crest tattoo on her left shoulder.

A few years went by, and Link had grown into a gallant teen. He had met many people and visited countless places, but sometimes he still thought about Verios, missing her joyful dances and even her pranks. His first order of business was to find the Master Sword, though, especially now that Ganondorf's wicked influence was starting to become manifest; most of the attacks happened at night, when obscure monsters crawled out from the underworld, and Link had needed to learn how to use weapons in order to protect himself and the people around him.

One day, he came across an ancient inscription on a weird-looking stone, near the Temple of Time in Hyrule Castle Town. Since Link didn't know that language, he reached into his pouch and pulled out the Fairy Ocarina to play Saria's song, hoping she could help him. A few seconds later he heard his friend's voice, carried by the echo of the melody…

'Link? This is Saria. Can you hear me?'

'Yes,' he mentally replied, 'sorry to bother you but I need your help.'

'Tell me what it is,' she said kindly.

'Can you translate this for me, please?' Link looked at the surface of the weird stone. He knew that she could see through his eyes for as long as he played her song on the Fairy Ocarina.

'I'll try…

'Well, the inscription is written in ancient Hylian, and it says:  He who lived among the forest children without being one, must leave his homeland to search for a sacred meadow further east, then the symbol of the Hero will awaken on the back of his hand, when the legendary blade will be released.'

A clue to the whereabouts of the Master Sword, at last!

'Thank you very much, Saria!' Link exclaimed happily.

'You are welcome,' she replied, 'please be careful and come back to Hyrule as soon as you find the Master Sword!'

'Don't worry, I'll be back in a few months,' Link reassured her. He yet didn't know that his quest would have taken much longer than what he had anticipated.

MY ZELDA FANFICS:
Zelda_FoW Prologue |COMMISSION
The canopy of heaven over the Desert Colossus was painted with pale hues of lilac and gold. It was just before dawn and the sun would rise soon, scorching the already barren land with its cruel rays.
Once inhabited by a highly civilized race, only an imposing temple remained as a vestige of a glorious past. The temple was tall, carved into the reddish rock, and showed the features of a long-forgotten Goddess of the Sand. However, such magnificent homage to her had been useless: the cruel sands had engulfed everything, covering the once greenish land with dry, fine dust.
The early morning air was almost still—the fierce winds would have come later—yet suddenly the sand began to swirl around a flat stone. A strange, gilt symbol was chiselled into the pedestal, barely visible, but it started glowing just before a horseman appeared like from thin air.
The sun was rising at last, and the figure projected an elongated shadow, outlining the silhouette of a young man sitting straight
Writing sample 02: Zelda - Skyward Sword one shot
Late in the evening, Role managed to find Hylian at last.
Someone had saw him climbing the tall hill just next to the Knight Academy a couple of hours ago, so he could only be in one of his most favourite hideout: a hidden chamber on the top of the long forsaken Temple of the Goddess. From up there, the view of Skyloft was breathtaking, but Role was too worried to enjoy it.
Once inside, the boy asked, "For how long are you going to hide here?"
Hylian didn't show any intention of moving, though.
Instead, he just kept frowning while looking at the pouring rain, between the tall shrubs which covered the floor and walls of the once dark crypt. With the passing of the ages, that place had become a green sanctuary.
However, Role knew that his brother couldn't stay in a bad mood for long, so she simply waited.
"I just wanted to look a little at the Underworld." Hylian finally replied, few minutes later, still staring at the rain like it was its fault his plan had gone wrong.
"You know that it
