A present for my mother, this is also my entry for the Traditional-Media "Spring & Autumn Challenge". This design is inspired by spring and cherry blossom ("sakura" in Japanese) at dawn, toward the summer season (notice the stars on the bottom left side of the mask - a starry sky is often used as a symbol of summer in Japan).
Shading the base colour like this took me a whole night--I want an airbrush!

P.S. I entered this artwork in the spring-themed contests at All-types-Art (I won the third place ) and at GreatCrafts's one (I won the surprise prize feature    ).
I also call this mask "Spring Dawn", and I think a "sakura" (cherry blossom) pattern is quite fitting for a seasonal contest since it's the most important symbol of spring in Japanese culture. A requisite for entering the contest was answering the following question too, which I'll do below:
"What is your favorite things about Spring? If you don't like Spring, what season do you like and why?"
The thing I maybe love the most about spring is the flower fragrance in the air and wind, which often even overcames smog. My favourite season is summer though, since I love swimming in the sea and warm temperatures.
