A cross to never forget three
brotherhood-bounded crimson cups
as vivid as his burning heart
dreaming to become Pirate King.
Captain of eight, rushing ahead,
towards his dreams and the unknown
while wearing proudly a straw hat
that is nothing less than a crown.
For it, he's grateful to a man
who had made an audacious bet
in the village of the windmills
lapped by a peaceful sky-blue sea.
Back then, he met his two brothers
and they became a family:
loving and helping each other,
searching for gold in a landfill.
Nearby, a revolting city
where a dragon the future saw
as he patiently listened to
a noble boy's ashamed pleadings;
A boy who is now his talons
and who is fighting for freedom,
he's working from behind the scenes
while changing his very own fate.
Everlasting, the memory
of their brother who in the war
burnt down but whose fire's still living:

After the third ring, Sabo finally deigned to pick up the call.
“What’s up?” he said vaguely in the direction of his den-den mushi.
“You answered at last!” Hack complained on the other end.
Sabo’s phone snail mirrored Hack’s exasperated expression, but he ignored it. “I was training,” he replied, not bothering to conceal his annoyance at the interruption.
The fishman sighed, trying to calm down. “Don’t overdo it,” he said in a fatherly tone. “You ate the Mera Mera just a couple of days ago, and powers granted by Devil’s Fruits require years to master…”
“We don’t have years,” Sabo retorted, wiping sweat from his face. He winced slightly; the scar around his left eye was still sensitive despite being twelve years old.

My try on the "I'm Free" prompt at AnimeFanFics and my very first typography work.

A/N:
- the "S" stands for Sabo (upon reading the theme, he was the first character I thought about);
- the first person point of view implied by the prompt was more suitable for poetry than prose imho so I made a visual poetry;
- I'm enjoying the One Piece manga a lot lately, and Dressrosa is shaping up to be one of my favourite arcs;
- I'm quite amused by people's headcanons about Sabo (many see a dark side in him, hence the lines about his "shattering claws" in this poem);
- that said, Sabo's speech during his fight against the marines is as major trolling on his side in my opinion, since even if he does have a dark side (his regret for not being there for Ace in Marineford) I believe he was just showing off in Dressrosa to make the Marine and consequently the World Government aware of his power (it's like he was saying that he was strong and that he would destroy whoever laid a finger on his little brother    ).
